Two Gents Act V, Scene 1 – Haymarket, Boston

This was an incredible moment for Shakespeare Aloud – even for a 12 line scene.  We all thought there was a shoot-out for a few seconds here at the farmer’s market at Haymarket in Boston.  Weirdly, I say to the camera to see if you can pick up on any sounds and smells from the very stimulating and highly trafficked area we’re walking through, and then BAM.  We still don’t know what it was but I could have sworn it was trouble.

Amazing thing was that this little scene is the Silvia/Eglamour escape.  They are being followed, and the canon shot was RIGHT on cue – startled us and then the escape, cued by ‘I fear I am attended by some spies.’  They’re after us!

Oh, to be the gentleman behind you! He is so interested in what you are doing, Bill! It’s great to watch the whole scene and people’s reactions. The interest to be involved even as a listener is palpable in his smile in his jockeying for sight lines with the camera. . . really adorable. I can’t WAIT to see more. What a wonderful piece of living, breathing performance art.
