From 2014 to 2016 I composed the music for Hamlet Globe-to-Globe, the historic world tour to every country on earth. It had never happened before, and it may never happen again. But we know how possible it is.
This was a Shakespeare’s Globe production directed by Dominic Dromgoole and Bill Buckhurst, and featuring an intrepid 12 actors and 4 stage managers who made it to 197 countries and well over 200 venues playing for hundreds of thousands of people and traveling hundreds of thousands of miles.
There is too much to say about this amazing experience for words. Fortunately the Globe teamed up with Google to provide an exciting online exhibition showing some of the details in more, erm, detail.
It’s really cool.
Huge experiences take a while to articulate. I don’t know how any of the actors or SM’s will ever get their words around what it was like. Having seen them in only 20 countries or so, my experience is an iota of theirs – and I’m still struggling. There’s so much out there on this tour. Have a google and see for yourself. Meantime, enjoy these links.
